VPN Testing Methodology

We test each of the VPNs ourselves. While we do like some more than others, we’re not in love with any.

During our VPN testing, multiple team members independently evaluate the VPN service. They start with the most popular online activities, then they move on to raw speed tests from servers around the world. We also cover less common use cases, like router installations, double VPN configurations, and suitability for regions with high censorship.

If the VPN has additional features, like an antivirus or ad blocker, we test those too. We poke around and leave no stone unturned, ready to catch the scent of weakness in any VPN service.

At the end of the day, our managing editors aggregate the testing data and put together the full picture. If something looks too good to be true, they pursue the matter and fix the problem.
