A VPN, or virtual private network, is a popular kind of software that provides much-needed benefits in the Internet era.
A VPN can protect a smart TV from malicious third parties. Hackers may try to locate different vulnerabilities in smart TVs’ operating systems to access your TV and other home devices. Using a VPN prevents them from getting your passwords, accessing your TV data, sharing your subscription plan, and controlling your TV.
Using a VPN also gives you access to restricted content regardless of geographical location. Most big media houses have headquarters in the United States, restricting their viewership and streaming content to only US residents. A VPN enables you to change your location and access content from just about anywhere in the world.
VPNs improve privacy. Many internet service providers monitor what their customers do online. Some even collect your browsing data and sell it to other parties that use it for advertising and related activities. VPNs hide your online activity, leaving them with little information about you. This also means they can’t throttle you based on your activity.
Here are the top VPNs I recommend based on performance and protection.
ExpressVPN employs top-notch encryption technology to protect your information and deter unauthorized third-party access. With an extensive network of servers in over 105 countries, it provides unmatched connection speeds. Furthermore, ExpressVPN maintains a rigorous policy of not keeping any logs, guaranteeing that no records of your online activity are stored.
Private Internet Access (PIA) employs encryption methods that are widely used in the industry and upholds a strict no-logs policy to ensure that none of your online activities are stored. PIA has an extensive server network spanning over 91 countries, making it easy to connect to a nearby server and choose the best network for optimal performance. It is well-suited for medium or large families since it permits up to ten simultaneous connections on the same network.
CyberGhost VPN has a presence in more than 90 countries and provides several tools to safeguard your privacy and data security. These include robust encryption, a policy of not keeping logs, and a kill switch. Additionally, the service has an easy-to-use interface and offers specialized servers for streaming, torrenting, and gaming purposes.
Connecting your TV to WiFi without a remote is possible. Whether you’ve lost your remote or it stopped working, you can still connect your TV to WiFi and enjoy all the benefits of your smart TV. If your WiFi is still problematic, you can also consider using an ethernet cable.
For an even better experience, consider getting a VPN on your smart TV. A good VPN like ExpressVPN can unlock content libraries worldwide, putting even more entertainment at your fingertips.
Access the network settings screen on your TV. Locate your home network and input the password.
If you use a streaming device like a Fire TV Stick, you can cast or mirror the phone to your streaming device to watch the phone's content on a bigger screen. If you don't have a smart streaming device and are stuck with a regular TV, you can connect your phone using a USB-C to HDMI cable.
Poor network quality and issues with the TV and WiFi connection are the main reasons a smart TV will not connect to WiFi. Ensure your WiFi connection is strong before troubleshooting deeper issues related to your TV.
To mirror your phone to your TV, use an HDMI cable with USB-C. Connect the USB-C end of the cable to your phone and the HDMI end to your TV.
If you use an iPhone, you can install Airplay and launch it. Android users can use Airscreen instead. Other users can use Chromecast, which also works well.
To connect a TV to the internet manually, use the ethernet ports on the back of the TV. Connect an ethernet cable directly from the ethernet port on your TV to your router.
